vrf more on 7.0 and tricky system tasks

Question asked by mark.goldberg on Mar 5, 2004
Scott,

Not sure if this has been asked before, but, what about real windows type
menus? Will 7.0 support that as well.
There are also some COM commands that VEE 6.2 will not support, the exact
type escapes me, but there were some functions I was unable to use recently.
If you are not familiar with them I will try to find them in my notes.

Thanks,

Mark

Subject: [vrf] more on 7.0 and tricky system tasks

Hi vrf-ers,

I've seen some very recent questions on vrf about allowing your operators to
select directories from within VEE, with some excellent responses and
solutions.

In 7.0 it'll be a lot easier to select a directory, including choosing a
starting point (but not limited to that subtree), changing drives, working
reliably across network mounts, and allowing new dirs to be created--all
done with a standard Windows directory selection dialog.

Here's the Formula code that will do this in 7.0:

Set folderBrowserDialog = CreateInstance("System.Windows.Forms",
"System.Windows.Forms.FolderBrowserDialog" );
folderBrowserDialog.RootFolder=Environment.SpecialFolder.Desktop;
folderBrowserDialog.Description="Select a folder";
folderBrowserDialog.ShowNewFolderButton=asClrType("true",System.Boolean);
folderBrowserDialog.ShowDialog();
folderBrowserDialog.SelectedPath;

The Result pin will contain the directory chosen by the user. You'll
obviously also need to declare the folderBrowserDialog variable.

The formula was taken from one of the VEE 7.0 examples.

7.0 will begin shipping in a few more weeks (I don't have actual dates yet,
I'll post when I find out). If you bought 6.2 or a 6.2 upgrade, or if you
were still under support contract as of Mar 1 this year, you are entitled to
a free copy of 7.0.

To ensure 7.0 is shipped to you as soon as possible, you need to have
provided your contact information at < www.agilent.com/find/softwaremanager
>, so we can inform you when the software is ready to ship and ensure we
send it to the right place.

If you've already set up your contact profile with shipping information at
that site, you can expect to receive the software without further effort.

If you're not yet set up, please go to that web page and provide at least
your email address so we can inform you when the bits are ready.

Best Regards,

Scott Bayes
