vrf Serial Terminal emulation...

Question asked by robert on Jan 12, 2005
Yes.

An airborn spy system had a tuner programmed with a serial port (actually an
RS-485).  The test procedure said to enter the commands using a VT-100
terminal.  When automating the test, VEE was used to send the commands as
part of the testing process.  What the book said about the tuner and how the
tuner actally performed were different.  I discovered that a VT-100 is a lot
more forgiving than VEE about framing, baud rate, and parity.  When that was
discovered, there were no problems.  The book was wrong.

RS-232, RS-422, and RS-485 are hardware and electrical differences easily
taken care of with converters.  The essential part was the serial port
behavior as far as framing.
