The down-side for parallel port support is that there are so many
varieties of them: PS2, AT, "Standard", EPP, ECP, many of which do not
fully conform to the electrical specs, especially when it comes to
laptops. In my workplace, we are supporting some older devices that
connect to parallel port, and each time we upgrade computers we have a
new round of challenges in getting the hardware working again.
Although using the parallel port is free, there are some low-cost
alternatives that really merit consideration, such as Measurement
Computing's $99 USB-based 24-channel digital I/O module. I would rather
see native (i.e. not purchased) support for MC's products. That would
be a good partnership!
I DO agree with David Watling's wishlist, though. And a few of my own
wishlist items:
1) Ability to change ALL object properties, such as color, font,
position, etc.
2) Ability to change size/position/visibility of the MAIN panel/window
from code.
3) Support for object naming (like in the XY trace) such that any
object's properties can be set from a formula. I.e.
PassFailLabel.Color=Red
4) Support for relative paths in objects such as images and files. I
need my programs to be relocatable, so I have to jump through hoops to
initialize images before they are displayed on a panel, otherwise I get
errors. This makes the "display on execute" property useless for me.
But let me say, I do think the authors of VEE are doing an EXCELLENT job
adding new functionality. I'm sure we all use VEE in ways Agilent never
thought of, so it's easy to gripe without also giving credit where
credit is due. I started at VEE 3.0, and it has come a LONG way since
then.

Attention Agilent:
Here it is again, the semi-annual requirement for parallel port I/O.
Why
are you unable to build this into VEE as a stand part of the product?

interfaces the parallel port?
I am looking to write to the port only. I need to be able to
set 8 data bits and 4 control bits.
Thanks

My Problem is that I have several PMD1208LS and one PMD1208FS which are sometimes changed. My Program should automatical check which modul is connected.
In the supported VEE UserObjects I didnt found any help.
Maybe there are some users, who had solved this Problem.
