vrf How to change logical-ID of USB-GPIB (Agilent)

Question asked by VRFuser on Jul 31, 2008
Hi Jochen,

I got it. If you use VEE 8.x it is a good time to change the SICL address to VISA address through VEE instrument manager and resave it. You only change once for the program and for each of instrument. It does not need much effort. Then you can select/set IO VISA name in IO library for each new 82357A/B installed to match the VISA name in your program.

If you use VEE prior to VEE 8.0 see my another email on it.

Best Regards,

Xiaoying

Hello Xiaoying,

thanks for your answer. There is no conflict with the USB-GPIB and the 8 port serial card. Everything works fine.

The only problem is that i have a lot of testexec-sequences which are calling vee-actions. And the actions have as input the gpib-address.

This address is for example "701" (logical-id "7" and instrument-address "1").

Now i have to change all parameters to "1501" what means a lot of work.

Would be easier if its possible to change only once the logical-id for the USB-GPIB.

(Lesson learned: Always set the address via symbol-table and not hardcoded.)

best regards

Jochen

Hi Jochen,

Why do you want to change the logical ID? Does your OS can not solve the resource confliction between USB-GPIB and 8 port serial card?

Old ISA/EISA-gpib-card has switch on the card to set the logical ID to avoid its resource confliction with other hardware. Now all is settled with OS.

Xiaoying

Hello,
i´m, using an Agilent USB-GPIB-Konverter 82357B which runs with the Agilent-IO-Libraries 15.
I also have an 8-port serial-card.
When i plug in the usb-gpib then it appears as Logical-ID 15 in the IO-Libraries.
Is there a way to change this number? I remember that in the pci-gpib-cards this value could be changed.
But where to change it for usb?

Thanks for any ideas.

best regards
Jochen Gallmayer
