Hi Bill,

I think you can (but I have never tried it for real!).  Unless things have changed dramatically VEE's Direct I/O object puts a call into the SICL layer of the Agilent IO Libraries for GPIB.  If the Agilent IO Libs are not installed/you are using the NI API, then VEE throws the call out to the NI488.DLL and hopes that it is there!  For the serial port, VEE directs the call to the SICL layer.  No SICL installed, no talking to the serial port, just the error message sicl32.dll not found...

I think that you should be able to install the Agilent IO Libs side by side with your NI installation.  Install Agilent VISA as secondary if you choose to install the VISA API.  This 'should not' mess anything up.  You might even want to try a custom install of the IO Libs and choose only to install the SICL API.

That's the theory anyway...

Good luck,

Andy

Well, it was working until I tried use the serial port. If I'm just using GPIB everything is fine. When I tried a program that needs the serial port I get a SICL error message--"sicl32.dll not found."

Is there a way to fix this? Can I install SICL without messing up all the National stuff?

Thanks,
Bill

All,

I installed VEE 7.0 runtime on my NI system yesterday and it worked. No problems at all.

Thanks,
Bill
