vrf VEE 7.03 and VEE 7.5 on the same system?

Question asked by antti.suhonen on Oct 30, 2005
I want to be chiming too.

Dear Boeing:

Please lean on the Agilent rep and press her to add direct I/O support of
the parallel port and the USB port.

The last request for parallel port was met with an excuse that they are
evolving and changing and that it is too hard to maintain compatability.
Maybe so, but my HP LaserJet 4 and its parallel port connection has survived
for over 12 years,  DOS 6, Win3.1, Win95, Win98, WinNT, Win NT4, Win2K,
WinXP Home, WinXP Pro, 80486, Pentium, Pentium 2, Pentium 3, Celeron, AMD,
eSystems, Sony Viao, home-made, KDS, IBM, Acer, Gateway, Versalogic, D-Link,
and several more I do not remember.  Now, tell me again why it is too hard
to make a simple parallel port driver inside VEE that can can have direct
I/O access.  You can make your program print text and graphics using
elaborate conversions to numerous printers, how about a simple direct
output?  My byte onto my pins, plain and simple, with no conversions.

About ten years ago I was in a VEE class in the HP building in Santa Clara
on Stevens Creek,  The instructor made the point that VEE was intended for
quick and simple programming of hardware.  I still use it that way and do a
number of oddball things using a few bits from the parallel port to control
digital objects.  Not everything is IEEE 488, IEEE 802, serial, Active-X,
Excel, or Microsoft.

I still work with real hardware involving voltage, current, mass, time,
solder, rosen, smoke, and even a mirror. Prallel port I/O from VEE would
make life a lot easier for me.

Is there anyone else on this planet who would like to endorse this request?

      Hi All VEE User....

A team of VEE USER's from Boeing is meeting with an Agilent
Representative for feedback and suggestions on the new release of VEE.
Feel free to chime in on suggestions and I will forward it to the
Agilent Rep.

What would be the best way to compile the suggestions?  Keep
pinging the same thread and tag suggestions to the end of the list?

     Thanks

    Hi Tom,
I am planning to meet with some other Boeing employee's on this topic.
Would you and others from your group be interested in attending?
Our division is in the process of gathering VEE Pro user input for
planning the next revision of the software, and would like to visit
Boeing in El Segundo to talk with some key customers. This visit would
take place the morning of Nov. 11th on a Friday. I propose that this
could be addressed in a 1 hour meeting at your facility.
There are three main issues they would like to address:
1) Gather open feedback about VEE (their requests, pain points, etc) and
specific feedback about our preliminary list of proposed features
2) Assess your VEE use model in order to understand how we can deliver
the best licensing, support, and other resources to Boeing
3) Understand your broader software needs as they relate to use with
Agilent instrumentation (IO Libraries, other Agilent measurement
software, tie in with Excel, etc)
