This is the concept of "modality". A modal dialog halts all activity while
the user responds. A non-modal dialog is more like a control panel that is
periodically polled for input, and allows all other activities to continue.
To achieve this, simply construct a panel in the form of the dialog you
want - don't use a dialog.
