vrf Multi-dimensional arrays

Question asked by VRFuser on Feb 3, 2006
Simon,

I like to keep track of tensors with the following analogy:

Elements = Characters
1D = Line
2D = Page
3D = Book
4D = Bookcase
5D = House
6D = Street
7D = City
8D = State
9D = Country
10D = Heavenly bodies of your choice (PC and Nicole forbid the revealing actual identity (matrix) of my choice but I assure you it isn't ill-formed)

Don't feel bad, cognition expert G.A. Miller posits that most human minds are only capable of keeping track of 7 +/- 2 items so mnemonics need to be employed for more complicated constructs.

Cheers,

Bert

Just a quick question, how do you think your way around an array that big? I can manage 3 maybe 4....

Subject: [vrf] Multi-dimensional arrays

Hi fellow vrf-ers,

I wish to take a multi-dimensional int32 array (could be as high as 6 dimensions) and increase the size of any one of these dimensions, without losing the existing data.  Is there a tidy way of doing this?

Regards
