vrf Data io / Unisite programmer with vee

Question asked by rachell on Jan 12, 2005
Hi, all!

It is possible to develop a VEE program that allows one to change GPIB cards
(Agilent <-> NI). I have got several such programs. There is only one term,
it is necessary do design auto config function. I have in mind that at first
step searching GPIB devices is executed. Then by means of parsing *IDN?
responce actual GPIB address of each device is found. It is obvious that
object like IO.newInstrument9.address = value allows one to set actual GPIB
address for each instruments.

This aproach does not work if there is need in using TCPIP imstruments
without predefining IP address or computer name, since both Agilent and NI
do not offer a way how to discovery TCPIP instruments that are present in
local NET in run time.

With best regards,

Thanks.... What I am trying to do was that NOT modifying any part VEE
code(assuming the application software is VEE Runtime one and the
communication was done with DirectIO.) and replace GPIB card with the
other one.

It seems it is not possible replacing GPIBs directly without
modification of VEE source code.

According to page# 214 of VEE Pro Advanced Programming Techniques, "only
local units 14,15,17 and 18 are supported for National GPIB cards on the
PC".

However, those were "Recommended" ones on page# 213.

Changing the address (select code) in the VEE -> Instrument Manager
should mostly work.

Example: Change address 714 to 1414.
