Hi Doug
Â
Cheers for the info but i have done this and still had no joy, so at the mo i have to cut an paste but since i only have one instrument this is not to bad. Selecting the tulip driver did not work any thoughts? but this is not a major problem as it seems to be working ok other than that.
Â
Cheers

Hello Amrik,
Â
VEE and Labview coexist on the same PC; I use them both all of the time.
In this setup NI’s VISA needs to be the primary VISA and Agilent’s VISA
works fine as the secondary VISA. Â There is one caveat with this setup:
NI’s Tulip passport is turned off by default. This disables the communication
path to Agilent’s VISA so drivers accessible only to Agilent’s VISA appear
unaccessible. To enable NI’s Tulip passport open NI’s Measurement and Automation
Explorer and navigate to:
Â
Tools->NI-VISA->Visa Options->Passports
Â
and enable
Â
NiVisaTulip.dll
Â
This should allow Labview to communicate with your Agilent device.
Â
Best regards,
Â
Doug Teigland

Hi All
Â
I have not betrayed Vee but here is my two bits worth.
Â
I have just done this, i was gonna reply earlier but i would have had no feedback, it has been two days now and nothing has exploded and i think i can now use the machine without a bomb proof suit on, or could they be my famous last words!
Â
My setup is labview 8 runing on XP, no Agilent Vee installed. I have an agilent psu using a agilent usb-gpib interface, so i had to install the agilent IO libraries Version M01.01. The only problem i have experienced so far was that the labview visa and the agilent visa do not talk to each other properly. This was a problem only when trying to setup up a task to control the psu through the labview development environment. To overcome this you just cut and paste the gpib address into the appropriate field and after that it appears to be funtioning ok, But these are early days yet.
Â
I hope this helps a little, and if you have any particular questions i might be able to try something here and see what happens, but be sweet i am new to this labview.
Â
Cheers

I believe I read that several people were seriously injured when PC loading with LabView exploded and sent shards of high velocity molten CD towards the installer. I even read that one shard was auctioned off on Ebay, the shard, when looked in the right light showed an image of a bearded man giving the thumbs up sign. It was also reported that the Agilent logo could be seen in the image.
It must be true, its on the internet.

Hello All,
I have been drawn over to the dark side, and was sent to Labview training last week. My question is, if I install Labview on the same machines I already have VEE in, will I suffer for this. I am not too concerned about the development environments, but more with the device drivers and interfaces for them. Does anyone have any experiences with this? Words of caution, warning or doom?
Thanks,

I have both LabVIEW and VEE. For the most part they play well with each other.
But it's not really LV and VEE, but rather NI VISA versus Agilent VISA that is the issue. That's where the device drivers and interfaces are. In general you will need Agilent VISA to handle Agilent's GPIB cards and NI VISA to handle NI's GPIB cards. Both LV and VEE are capable of handling the other company's VISA. The biggest problem is when you mix NI hardware and Agilent hardware - because then you'll need both VISA's installed at the same time. The rule used to be "Install NI VISA first, then install Agilent VISA in the side-by-side mode. After that, go back into NI MAX and turn on the 'Passport' option so that NI VISA can find the Agilent devices." It's been a while since I've done that though, so I don't know if it's gotten easier/harder since then.

Subject: [vrf] Will VEE and Labview in the same machine explode?
Hello All,
I have been drawn over to the dark side, and was sent to Labview training last week. My question is, if I install Labview on the same machines I already have VEE in, will I suffer for this. I am not too concerned about the development environments, but more with the device drivers and interfaces for them. Does anyone have any experiences with this? Words of caution, warning or doom?
Thanks,

Â
Tools->NI-VISA->Visa Options->Passports
Â
and enable
Â
NiVisaTulip.dll
Â
This should allow Labview to communicate with your Agilent device.
Â
Best regards,
Â
Doug Teigland
