Hi All
Has anyone got an example of a VEE program using ActiveX/DCOM to run an
application (say excel) on a remote hosting PC. Any help will be greatly
appreciated. I understand that when using createobject I need to add the
host PC name but some how I think I need to run a DCOM utility or something
probably on both PC's but having not done this before I would like some good
directions.
All the best and thanks to all in advance

Chris,
If you are looking for general directions on setting up the DCOM server
components, you can check the VEE callable server help file. This can be
found in the VEE installation directory (Program FilesAgilentVEE Pro 6.0
by default). The filename is callserv.hlp. The information you are looking
for is in the "DCOM Configuration Hints" topic.
You can also check the Microsoft support site (http://support.microsoft.com)
and search on DCOM on topic Excel for Windows or for articles Q288366 and
Q257757. The articles state that "Microsoft does not currently recommend,
and does not support, Automation of Microsoft Office applications from any
unattended, non-interactive client application or component (including ASP,
DCOM, and NT Services), because Office may exhibit unstable behavior and/or
deadlock when run in this environment."
Hope this helps,
Lyle
