Additional information about slow file opening:
All vee and vxe programs are on Hard disk drive D: and pictures if there
are any are also on same directory as vee files. Network is not used but it
is configured by default on Compaq Armada E500. I could remove LAN
configuration because we do not need it, but I have not tried it yet.

does your vee file try to contact any other file (like a picture) which was
originally on a different drive? This kind of halting seems to come from the
operating system when trying to access a file over a network connection -
perhaps using a UNC file name and the server name changed for your local pc.
