vrf ActiveX Control and read serial port

Question asked by VRFuser on Apr 17, 2006
I agree with the last comments by Shawn......basically someone left the building and took the code with them, or left it whatever, aswell as leaving you with custom card.

I think, Look at your inputs and outputs, and rebuild from scratch,

HMI ( Vee will be better than the 15 year program)
Program...Vee will run as faster (than a 10 yr old C program.....because of legacy).
Interface....at least now you are standardising....
Hardware.....give info?......probably replaceable cheaply.

Cost of replacement $<?, ........experience doing it ....priceless

No.

Analyze the original circuitry.

1. There are techniques to connect to a process and control it's input and
read it's output, but only if the original program uses the standard
library. If it's reading the keyboard and writing to the screen without
going through the standard library, you'll have to do a lot of work to
automate it. Brush up on your machine language. You'll need it (i.e., it
ain't gonna happen in VEE - that much is sure).

2. It's a toss up. Either figure out what the original board does or capture
a session and figure it out that way. VEE can handle a serial port just
fine, but RS-232 isn't the only beast out there. There are plenty of wire
protocols that have nothing to do with any published standard.

My opinion is completely redesign and rebuild the test rather than automate
the existing test.
