Probably not. The 54121 was an earlier scope and a follow on to the 54100
series. Many commands were different. I would suggest you contact Bill
Watry who was the firmware project leader for the 54120 and will have
documentation. Bill can be reached at billwatry@frii.com

Hello to the forum,

I was recently asked to bring back to life an old HP 54121A TDR and try to get results from it in a PC...
The problem is that I haven't got any manual with programming instructions, so I donâ€™t know how (if) I can talk to it, or the only O/p option it provides is the plotter / printer optionâ€¦

If anybody knows more on that or where I can find some relevant info, that would be greatly appreciatedâ€¦

Probably not. The 54121 was an earlier scope and a follow on to the 54100 series. Many commands were different. I would suggest you contact Bill Watry who was the firmware project leader for the 54120 and will have documentation. Bill can be reached at billwatry@frii.com

The download you point to is for the driver source code.

Try compiling the driver first and pointing the instrument manager
to the compiled version.

compiler is in your VEE install as idc.exe for modern VEE, and
hpidc.exe for older versions. Run the compile from a command line
with source code as a command line argument, as in

idc driver.id

It will create the compiled driver.cid

I have been thinking about upgrading, and wondered if anyone had used that
feature of 7.5 with the NI DMM. If I can get the Pickering card to work in
VEE, I will probably upgrade for that reason. Have you tried VEE 7.5
specifically with the PCI version of the 4070 DMM? That is what I am
using.

I was using LabView 8 for this project, but had some issues getting
reliable operation with the Pickering card. NI and Pickering have not been
able to help yet, and I need to move on to other things soon. Hopefully
VEE will work with the input Shawn provided.

compiler is in your VEE install as idc.exe for modern VEE, and hpidc.exe for older versions. Run the compile from a command line with source code as a command line argument, as in
idc driver.id
It will create the compiled driver.cid
