vrf VXI PNP-Question

Question asked by VRFuser on Dec 12, 2002
Hi Thomas,

You are getting bit by a dirty little secret of the VXIplug&play system.
Back when we were defining this, we agreed on a set of capabilities which
could be included in a header file.  STRUCTs were explicitly disallowed in
VPP 3.4.  However, many non-HP/Agilent implementations simply wrote their
drivers in NI's Labwindows/CVI and if it worked there, did no further
testing.

Originally, I had the duty of interoperability chair for the VXIpnp alliance
and during this period, I would look for things like this.  However, 70% of
the "compliant" drivers were never submitted.

Now, Racal did submit the 1260 files for testing, and I do dimly recall this
issue coming up.  I believe that this was handled through either a second
header file, or by a set of #IFDEF s in the header code.  You might want to
look into the header file and see if this can easily be turned off.  If not,
I would go back to direct I/O.

  Best regards,

Subject: [vrf] VXI PNP-Question

I'm trying to install a Racal Instruments 1260-22 PNP-VXI card in an
Agilent E1401B VXI chassis.  I was able to get the E1401B to find the card,
RESMAN works fine, and I can even call up the driver and open and close the
relays.  The problem that I'm having is when I try to load the PNP driver
in VEE (like I've done with the Agilent cards E1442, & E1460), I get an
error in VEE that tells me that the RI1260-22 header file at line 590 there
is an issue with the STRUCT command.  That it is an unkown data type.

Has anyone used the PNP driver for this card?  Or should I stick with
direct I/O?

Thanks,

Tom Mitchell
