is 'Windows 5.2' the version info for 'Windows Server 2003' ?
Do you have a link to a microsoft info on that topic?
If so, there would be no problem changing my code

your programm is O.K., but you ran in the same trap as the makers of VEE .
There's now another Windows Version :
'Windows Server' with MajorVersion = 5 and MinorVersion = 2 !

Subject: [vrf] Re: Interface with MySql database
Hello Marcus,
here is what you need:
- Running MySQL Server
- MySQL ODBC Driver (V3.51 is actual)
- Microsoft ADO 2.5 Components (or above)
- create a database named 'test'
- create a file DSN named MyTestDB.DSN ( using
C:WINNTsystem32odbcad32.exe)
by selecting the MySQL ODBC Driver and a valid user account, wich must
be created earlier (test the connection afterwards !)
- the file MyTestDB.DSN it is stored under (C:ProgramsCommon
FilesODBCData Sources)
- add a table to the database by importing my demo script (contacts.sql)
- now you can run the attached vee example
If you are searching for a good administration tool for MySQL I can
recommend MySQLFront (www.mysqlfront.de) for free. Although development for
that tool has stopped, it is still downloadable:

version of the command processor to use. As long as MS keeps using CMD.EXE
for future versions, I'm satisfied with the following lines to do the job:
OS=WhichOS();
CMD=((OS=="Windows_95" OR OS=="Windows_98") ? "COMMAND.COM" : "CMD.EXE")

Welp, I'll tell ya - I humbly submit that the whichOS() function is
completely useless. It is guaranteed to break your software every time MS
decides to change the name of NT. The solution is to use GetVersion in
kernel32.dll (long __stdcall GetVersion(void);). The return value has bit 31
= 0 if you're running real Windows (NT) or bit 31 = 1 if you're running fake
Windows (3.1 + Win32s or 9x). The low-order byte reflects the specific major
version. The high-order byte of the low-order word specifies the minor
version. If the platform is NT, then the build number is in bits 30 to 23.
For the hex-challenged, that's:
dwVer = GetVersion();
bIsNT = NOT bit(dwVer, 31);
iMajor = bitAnd(dwVer, 0xff);
iMinor = bitAnd(dwVer, 0xff00);
iBuild = (bIsNT ? bitShift(bitAnd(dwVer, 0x7fff0000), -16) : -1);
Note that GetVersion has been superseded so at some point it will go away
(maybe). In that case, you'll have to use GetVersionEx which is a royal
pain, though it can probably be done a lot cleaner using a ramp to decode
the string. The attached GetVersionEx isn't efficient, but it works.

Screw all this string stuff. Use the bits. There is DOS/Windows and there is
Windows NT. That is all. Just look at bit 31 and you'll never, ever have any
problem at all.

then wouldn't proper programming practice be to return
windows x.x
if the version can't be properly ID'd???
that is rather than returning a known incorrect value, wouldn't
something like this make more sense?
case
mav=4 and pid=0: version="98";
mav=4 and pid=1: version="NT4";
mav=5 and miv=0: version="2000";
mav=5 and miv=1: version="XP";
else: version=mav+"."+miv+"."+piv"
end case
that way the correct info is always returned in the future
as Windows evolves.

Well now that's true. It's definitely one of the fake ones
Hey Mike, I'm sorry about that rather rude comment. I only wanted to point
out how whichOS can trip you up, and it came out all wrong. I wasn't quite
myself last night. Please accept my apology.

Why don't you just ask to the OS... Issue the dos command "Ver" thru
CMD.EXE. If CMD.EXE is not there, trap the error and try again with
COMMAND.COM. The dos command VER is pretty explicit on the OS version.
Unfortunately, you will need to redirect the reply to a file, read the file
and delete the file.

Once again, the problem:
> CMD=((OS=="Windows_95" OR OS=="Windows_98") ? "COMMAND.COM" : "CMD.EXE")
And for Windows ME this evaluates to? CMD.EXE? BZZZZZZT!
Screw all this string stuff. Use the bits. There is DOS/Windows and there
is
Windows NT. That is all. Just look at bit 31 and you'll never, ever have
any
problem at all.
