vrf Adding GPS data to your system

Question asked by pollard on Oct 6, 2003
My advice would be to use a GPS receiver specifically designed for data acquisition, rather than a handheld that happens to include an RS-232 output. If you do that, the manufacturer will supply software that allows you configure the receiver. You'll get whatever data format you chose whenever the receiver is powered up (which can be from the +5v on the external keyboard port of your notebook, if you make your own adapter).

Then all you'll have to do in Vee is parse the data stream.

See http://www.garmin.com/oem/ for examples from Garmin.
