Detlef,
I'm using Win2000 but the registry has the same type of entries as those
discussed in the Win95 link you provided. My settings appear to be
correct and they are the same as those of a computer that does not
display this problem.
Two things to note: 1) the problem does not effect the file extensions
(they can be more than three letters) and 2) the problem is only seen
when running an application under VeeRunTime (the same application works
correctly under Vee and no other programs act strangely).
Just for fun I uninstalled and then reinstalled VeeRun - this did not
fix the problem.
Ugh!!!

Once again I've stumbled into a strange one. For no reason that I can
think of, my copy of VeeRunTime 6.01 no longer seems able to handle file
names beyond 8 characters long. If my application writes a file having
a long file name I get a substitute containing "~" (i.e.
ds_altimeter34.flag becomes DS_ALT~1.flag; note the conversion to caps
and that the 4 letter extension was accepted as is). Most applications
seem to run despite this situation but I have discovered that an
"Execute Program (PC)" object issues a "ds_altimeter34.vxe was not
found" error (#700) rather than running the program. A .vee program in
the same directory runs without problems and the .vxe program can be run
"on its own" although it produces the new flag file name mentioned
previously. Finally, the application containing the "Execute Program"
object runs correctly on other machines.
I intend to reinstall VeeRunTime to see what happens. Has anybody got
any other ideas?
