Question asked by kirk_reed on Jul 9, 2003
Shawn,

I am interested too.  I am not a software expert(no Windows programming
experience,  just some C programming experience and VEE) and need to
write to a three wire interface(CLK,DATA,ENABLE).  I want to use the
parallel port of the PC on Windows XP.  I have a Microsoft Visual C++
.NET compiler.

If you have some time,  if you could put together a brief tutorial
explaining various components(VEE program,  any DLLs/associated source
code you might call from the VEE program,  any workarounds),  that would
help a lot of us.  Even if you have a program which just writes to the
data pins,  that's fine.  It does not need to be the three wire
interface program.  It's the additional "stuff" which needs to be taken
care of which is not clear for a novice like me.

I hope that this won't take too much of your time.  I looked at your VEE
program and ran it,  but just could'nt understand what was going on,
including the code inside it.

Thank you very much.  Please reply at your convenience.

Subject: [vrf] RE: Parallel Port Access

Hi,

This request is directed to Shawn( who seems to be the Guru!)

Firstly,

Thank you for your very detailed explanation regarding Parallel Port
Access.
It answered some questions we have had in the past.

We have a project which requires us to send binary data to the Data Pins
and
Control pins of the parallel port.

We have tried to use your Program to do this but so far we ae
unsuccessful.
Can you explain how we change it from sending a text string to sending
binary bits?
Others may also be interested to know this. If you had time a
description of
how your program works would also be helpful.

We have struggling to find a simple! way of doing this for a few weeks
now
so your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Looking forward to your reply and thanks in advance.

Denis
