vrf Some questions we'd like to ask you

Question asked by manfred.weiss on Dec 10, 2002
Hi Scott and Nicole

- are you currently using MATLAB with VEE?
Yes, in most of my programms I use Matlab to creat nice plots and save this plots in the EMF-Format (enhanced meta file format). This gives very small graphic files that can be inserted into Word or Excel (sometimes more than 100 plots in one report). If I use only the plot functions from VEE with BMP or JPG format the filesize of the word document with hundreds of plots in one report would be really big and the quality is not as good as with this emf vector format. Also I often use the interpolation and polynomial functions of Matlab in my programms.

- do you think that repackaging VEE as we describe above is a good idea?
It depends on the price. For me only the version with Matlab is from interest but if the price of the VEE version without Matlab is much lower hopefully more people will use it. Also a student version without time limit would be great to enable students to learn VEE before they come into contact with Labview (lots of test equippment is sold with Labview drivers and then newcomers without GPIB experience probably go to Labview).

Doas VEE.next has an "UNDO"-button and "zoom-in/out"-buttons?

Best Regards
Manfred

Subject: [vrf] Some questions we'd like to ask you

Hi vrf-ers. It's Scott and Nicole again. We want to learn a bit about your preferences for MATLAB with VEE.

We're thinking of repackaging VEE to make MATLAB an option, so that when you buy the next release of VEE (let's call it VEE.next) you only have to pay for MATLAB if you want it.

Users who don't want MATLAB would get a price break on VEE.next. Those who do use it would be able to get it included with VEE.next at about the same price as today, by purchasing the option. And if you want to use the full MATLAB product with VEE, you would buy VEE.next without MATLAB and connect your full MATLAB in just as you do today.

We'd like to ask you a couple of questions:

- are you currently using MATLAB with VEE?

- do you think that repackaging VEE as we describe above is a good idea?

We haven't made a decision yet on whether or not to make MATLAB an option. Your input is important in this decision.

VEE.next - though we'd love to tell you more about VEE.next plans, we cannot do so right now.

So if you'd like to make your opinion heard, please post your answers to the vrf, or send them directly to Scott if you prefer privacy.

Best Regards,

Nicole Dierksheide
