vrf URGENT: Action Required - VRF is changing!

Question asked by chris.phipps on Aug 8, 2002
Hi Scott

Firstly, sorry about this edition of "War and Peace" but I hope this sums
things up for us the VRF users. If I am wrong I'm sure others will say so.

Many thanks for your input, The VRF is very important to everyone
(especially to new VEE users,) that use the VRF and in its current form if
anyone has a problem with VEE their post is seen almost immediately by a
large number of fellow VEE users and normally finds someone with the
appropriate experience to help them with their problem right away, this
gives VEE an effectively remarkable usability "out of the box" because of
this "users" support. I personally have seen and used posts that have given
me ideas of how to restructure code for greater efficiency, and features
that I have "discovered" because of the postings. Features which I would
have gone through life blissfully unaware of had it not been for the VRF.

With a web based system (who ever hosts it) people will have to go there,
and with the best will in the world I can't see myself logging in (to the
slowest web site known to man) to see if there are any posts that I  maybe
able to help with (which will probably be my loss not Agilent's). So this
website is likely to become a bulletin board of problems and not to many
answers.

People on the VRF are also reporting firewall access problems, which I admit
might be unusual but still very really for those who are experiencing these
troubles.

Scott, I appeal to you and the Agilent management to keep the VRF intact
which in turn will help keep the appeal of VEE alive to the users. The VRF
really is in my opinion, the best solution to keeping the experienced and
the novice VEE user in touch professionally with each other across company
boundaries. The VRF is really a good selling point for VEE, don't give
people the excuses to change to another coding environment!

Many thanks for your time with this I hope you still find it constructive as
the VRF has in general, always been

Regards

Chris

First, thank you all for keeping this a professional and friendly (and
pretty creative, too!) discussion in our absence. We're mostly out from
under our "day job" support responsibilities now, and can start to see
what's wrong with our plan, and what to do about it.

It looks like we have the wrong plan for the vrf, so we'll need to change
it. We don't want to mess up the vrf any more than you do. We take the vrf
very seriously, and want to do the right thing.

Based on our survey to the vrf of a few weeks ago, we thought the
ADN-with-email notifications change would be OK. We weren't going to be able
to get the email notifications working right away, but we thought that would
be acceptable for a short while. Given the survey responses, it was quite a
surprise to see today's response, though we expected some dissatifaction.

Anyway, give us some time to read all your postings and figure out what to
do. We need to talk to some key folks here and understand our resources,
etc. We'll get back to you as soon as we can.

Please don't give up on the vrf yet!

Best Regards to All,

Scott Bayes

Many of you may recall me asking for feedback on the needs for a web-based
discussion forum like the vrf. A few of you have already gone to ADN and
"explored" the existing VEE Discussion Forum.

We are officially moving the vrf to the VEE Forum (ADN Basic) on Thursday,
15 August. After 15 August, the vrf will no longer be functioning.

The existing Agilent VEE (ADN Basic) Discussion Forum will be terminated and
all existing threads will be removed by 23 August. Do not post any new
threads to this forum. Please use the VEE Forum (ADN Basic) for all new
threads.

To access the VEE Forum on ADN go to < http://www.agilent.com/find/adn >.
Register for ADN Basic (free registration) if you haven't already done so,
or login if you have already registered. Select Discussion Forums on the
left hand side of the page. Scroll to the VEE Forum (ADN Basic) and click.
You will then have access to all of the VEE discussion threads.

There will be feature changes to the VEE Forum over time. The first new
feature to be added will be the option to receive posts via e-mail. This
feature will not be there on 15 August but should be implemented shortly
after. We have listened to the feedback we received and understand that to
be the top requested feature.

We will also move some of the vrf archives over to the VEE Forum with time.
The archives will not be there on 15 August.

As you use the forum and would like to provide feedback on
improvements/enhancements please use the "Forum Enhancement/Improvement
Suggestions" thread that we already created. We will monitor that thread for
feedback.

We realize that this move has a very significant impact on all of you and
appreciate your support while we transition.

Regards,

Nicole Dierksheide
