vrf E4402B panel driver

Question asked by jay.johannes on Oct 8, 2003
IVI-COM drivers are pretty much like any other Active-X/COM object.  You
need to add the reference in the active-x automation references.  You can
then use create_object to create the instance.  You then initialize the
driver by calling driver.initialize with the aresource string of the device.
You then use the driver calls to access the instrument functions.

Your best bet is to download the driver from the ADN and look in the
helpfile.  The helpfile is located in <program
files>IVIDriversInstrument.  Once you have opened helpfile, look in the
section called Getting Started and look for Agilent VEE.  They have a very
good tutorial on using an IVI driver in VEE.

Can the IVI drivers only be used within C/C++, etc. or can they be used
directly in VEE?

Unfortunately, Agilent stopped producing classic VEE drivers back in 1995.
There are no supported drivers for anything introduced after that time.
Both panel and component were instantiations of a VEE Classic driver.

There is a supported VXIp&p driver that can be downloaded through ADN, as
well as an IVI class driver for the SA series spectrum analyzers.  Your best
bet is to use one of those.  The IVI drivers tend to be a bit better and are
a newer technology, but the VXIp&p drivers are somewhat easier to load and
use.

Does anyone have a panel or component driver for an E4402B spectrum
analyzer?

Thanks,
