vrf Fw: Fw: vrf XY object, problem with markes XY

Question asked by VRFuser on Feb 16, 2003
Hi Scott,

may I ask a question. I assume you are very close to the people who
might know the answer to it.

Within this year we will switch our development platform from HP_UX
B.11.11 to LINUX. (Yes, it's still running on B.11.11)
Now I am using VEE extensively for evaluation, test and validation of
our SW. I would really hate to leave it behind me when switching to
LINUX.

Is there any chance that VEE will be supported on the LINUX platform in
the forseeable future or do I soon have to look for another RAD tool
with all the features and strength of VEE ? I would really miss it ..
Or could there be any workaround to make it run on LINUX, using some
remote shared library access via sockets or similar ?

So, if possible, I would like to prepare for this situation.
Any comments on this ?

Regards,
Werner Jacoby,
Agilent ATG.

Hi Kjeld,

As I understand it, I have to buy an update to fix a problem agilent inventet. Is this correctly understood ?

Yes. This has often been true throughout the history of VEE.

If I Update I will cancel the possibility to work from home.Is this correctly understood ?

If I want to develop program communicating between to PC I need to buy an extra copy of VEE to be able to develope on both PC at the same time.Is this correctly understood ?

With the new licensing mechanism in 6.1, we now enforce the license terms of "one purchased copy of VEE required per machine" that have been in effect for many years.

However, there is a way to use a single copy of VEE 6.1 on more than one machine, as long as it is in use on only one machine at a time. And as long as both (all) computers are USB capable: that means they must have an available USB port and must not be running NT 4.0.

You can purchase a USB-LAN adapter (about $15 - $40 in the USA) and license your copy of VEE to its MAC address (LANID). Then install both VEE 6.1 and the license file on all the machines on which you want to run VEE. To use VEE on a particular machine, just plug the USB-LAN adapter into that machine and start VEE. Note that the USB-LAN adapter does not need to be plugged into a network for the licensing to work with it; it just needs to be attached to the computer with the network software enabled.

We have a licensing FAQ at < www.agilent.com/find/tmswLicensing <http://www.agilent.com/find/tmswLicensing>  >. The 8th FAQ on that page contains a link to a list of USB-LAN adapters that we have tested and appear to work well with VEE 6.1. These devices are very inexpensive.

Hi, Kjeld.

I think it was fixed in 6.1, though we explicitly fixed the XY plot, not the Polar. But the kind of fix R&D described to me makes me think that fixing XY may also have fixed Polar.

Below is one of the defect fixes noted in the 6.1 Readme.txt:

Defect Corrected: The XY markers "jump" to new locations on the traces when panel
and detail views disagreed on traceOffset for marker.

This also may have fixed it for you:

Defect Corrected: The XY markers "jump" to new locations on the traces. This
movement was not related to the traceOffset.

I don't know of any workaround in 6.01.

I suggest you try this for yourself in 6.1 to see if your particular problem has been fixed. You can go to the Agilent Developers Network (ADN) website and download a free 45-day evaluation version of VEE 6.1.

ADN is at < www.agilent.com/find/adn <http://www.agilent.com/find/adn>  >. You'll need to provide a bit of information in order to register for ADN Basic and get the download, but ADN Basic is free.

Hi
I'am trying to use the marker in a POLAR PLOT.  This problem i ran into seems to be an old problem.
Running VEE 6.01 , is there a solution to the problem/bug ? ( one year later )

We finally got some spare time to look at this thread and offer some help.

My R&D contact (I owe her bigtime!) had some clarifications of what we know about the problem and how to work around it. We're still hoping to fix it in VEE-NR, but it will be a while before that's available, so we thought we'd give you a workaround in the interim.

The bug is caused by having views of the "same" XY object disagree about which trace a marker is on.  The bug will not appear if:
- the developer ensures the XY on detail and (possibly multiple) panel(s) all agree on which trace each marker is on
- the user does not at runtime change which trace any marker is on

This does limit the functionality a bit, but we hope the workaround will help for now.

The bug appeared in 5.01 (was not in 5.0). It's due to an architectural change we made in the internals of VEE. Because of the architectural aspect, it's surprisingly complicated to fix. That's why I'm not making promises about fixing it in VEE-NR: I want to see this one get through full QA testing before we announce it's fixed.

Sincerely,

Scott Bayes

Attached is another example of this problem.  In this case it occurs in an X vs Y Plot.  This example expects the two data files to be in the root of the C drive.

There are notepads on the detail view of the user function that give some specifics about where to look in the example and other misc. info.

I've seen this same problem with XY Trace (with single or multiple traces), X vs Y Plot, and Y Plots.

Hope this helps the R&D people.

Juan, R&D has been able to duplicate your marker positioning problem.

I am hopeful that we'll see a fix in VEE-NR, but as always (sorry to keep
repeating, but Tech Support doesn't get to make the decisions about defect
fixes) I can make no guarantees.
