I appear to be mistaken- "xlsread" is not part of Excel Link afterall but
rather part of the core Matlab. Hence the problem may well be elsewhere.

sorry for the *** lead. Probably more useful to pursue the details of
whatever error message you get- perhaps file permissions or locking
or the like.
