vrf What's my IP address?

Question asked by VRFuser on Jan 29, 2004
A fast and CHEESY way to do it (if you are using WindowsNT, 2000, or XP is to just use a command prompt and enter "ipconfig > ipfile.txt" into the command prompt. That will redirect the output of the ipconfig command to the file "ipfile.txt"

Simply parse the ipfile.txt for your address -

the file will look like this (on a 2000 machine):

---------------------------------
Windows 2000 IP Configuration

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix  . : @home
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.3
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1
---------------------------------

Of course, this would have to be tweaked for windows 9X platforms a little -- I got another way to do this using ping that will work for all machines, but am at home right now, will send you something tomorrow.

     Hi Folks,

I'm sending data to other applications using an ActiveX UDP broadcast
object (IP Works from devSoft Inc.).  When I output data I also receive
a copy which I wish to reject.  Each received message includes the IP
address and port number of the sender so I can use this to determine if
received data is new or simply an echo of what I sent.  In order for
this to work, I need a method for my Vee application to determine the IP
address of the machine its running on.  One method is to broadcast a
test message and see where the echo comes from.  This works but I can't
help but think there is a better way. Any thoughts?
