vrf AW: Setting Default Printer in Vee 7.0

Yes, I and I believe most other VEE users (is VEE more popular in Europe?)
see the same thing all the time.  If you mention VEE to anybody, the
invariable answer is "VEE? What's that?"  I don't develop test for outside
customers, but, even within our company, I am a VEE island in a sea (well,
maybe a pond) of LabVIEW (though I have convinced another in R&D to buy VEE
recently).  I also fear that if and when I move to another company, I'll
have to give up VEE in favour of one of the more popular languages that
they're sure to have developed their tests in!

Ah well, I'm used to championing the underdog...(but, I have taken the
LabVIEW basic and advanced courses, too)

I just went to a meeting with a new customer. They want us to design their
next generation Test System for some of their product lines. They have quite
a few 19" racks chock full of gear that they need to retrofit/modify to test
a new product design. This is a fairly long-term project, and will employ
several of our engineers full time.

The customer currently has a VEE program, and some C apps that they use to
test their products. We met with 4 of the customer engineers. When we
reviewed the preliminary design, the customers made it clear that they
intended to go forward with LabView as the test platform for this new
design.

I just HAD to ask why they chose LabView, and here is what they said:

1. "We are moving away from VEE. There is little to no support, and it is
hard to find people that are experienced with VEE"
2. "We can find Engineers that have LabView experience quite readily"
3. "Agilent does not seem to support VEE very well at all"

Well -- it has finally happened ! It looks like I am going to take a crew of
our engineers to LabView training, and we are going to launch our
development efforts for this project using NI LabView. I am going to train
on the Labview product, and then take a group to training early next month.

I am done with VEE ? I don't know - but I am not happy to hear people say
they are "moving away from VEE". This is the second time that this has
happened in two years. The exception this time is that we won this project,
even though we do not have a lot of LabView experience and we lost the last
project because of that fact.

I will keep you posted...
