vrf To compare using Array

Question asked by VRFuser on Apr 7, 2004
Hi Lyle! Hi vrf,

So I did some tests, Win2K SP5, lots of apps running, VEE revs 6.01, 6.2 and 7.0, with your app. Ran 5 times in each rev, not starting or stopping any other apps between runs, no mouse movement, logging total time as reported in the top alpha display in your app. I don't have 5.01 installed.

Got out Excel and got the following results with 95% confidence level (Excel's CONFIDENCE function) for times:

6.01: mean 2.845 seconds, expected range 2.817 to 2.874 seconds
6.2:  mean 2.973 seconds, expected range 2.905 to 3.042 seconds
7.0:  mean 3.525 seconds, expected range 3.497 to 3.553 seconds

So I'd have to say there is very likely a small but statistically significant slowdown from 6.01 to 6.2 of about 0.13 seconds (5%), probably no more than about 0.23 seconds (8%), and a much larger one from 6.2 to 7.0 of about 0.55 seconds (19%), no more than about 0.65 (22%) seconds.

If I got my stats computations right, that is. 5 may not really be enough samples and I may have had a too-long day.

I don't know what might have caused the slowdowns; nothing obvious to the eye in the 6.2 to 7.0 change list. Might need to break pieces off the program and redo comparisons till you find what the big slowdowns are, because it may not all be due to file IO time.

Best Regards,
