vrf Scan a serial number

Question asked by reiner.schlieker on May 18, 2004
Again, thanks to everyone, and, again, none of the solutions offered does
what I need.  I've resorted to having the user choose whether the serial
will be entered by barcode or manually (barcode is default).  Continuing to
refresh the showpanel() forces the focus to return to the text entry box,
even after clicking a button, or somewhere else on the screen, but ONLY if
the text box is the first object in it's panel.  I'm doing this in VEE 6
right now, butwith VEE 7 you can choose which object has focus first.
Unfortunately, it also disables the buttons until the serial number is
entered, which is not desirable.  I may have to use a windows keyboard entry
routine instead of the text box...

Reiner,

This is not exactly what you are looking for but it gives you an Idea of
what the limitations of Vee are. The text box in Vee will not output a
value(at least from what I have been able to determine) until you remove
focus from it or hit enter. This will blank the buttons if you remove focus
or hit enter but not when you type into the box. The only way I think you
will be able to get that is if you use a key board get and simulate the test
box some how. I have this problem in a panel I wrote recently and could not
get rid of the problem.

Hope this helps you.

Mark

Thanks to everyone for their offered solutions, however, unless I'm missing
something, none of the solutions that I've seen address my problem:

- the code must allow you to use the buttons OR scan a serial number
- once you start to enter a serial number, it should wait until you've
entered the whole thing (the buttons should be disabled)
- after using a button, the focus should return to the scan text box (or, if
the user clicks anywhere on the screen, for that matter)

My frustration continues...
