vrf serial port protocol?

Right, 

although you could "not care" and set the Interface event such that you
could continue, else see if everything can be placed into one command
string, hence only one response required.  Then all you have to do is wait
on the interface to catch som'n,  map the results and respond as needed.
Note, check to see if you can run with only transmit and receive.  (assuming
software driven protocol) else you gonna need hardware if different from
RS232.

Best would be to find either a GPIB to X3.28 or serial to X3.28 interface.
Shouldn't be a big deal.  This way you let the hardware handle most of the
protocol.

If you're like me, heck, build the map and keep on keeping on.  Make sure
you can build the special keys in VEE.

It doesn't look that bad at all. VEE could handle it pretty easily. The only
problem you might run into would be long delays between tx and rx. Once you
execute a read transaction on any interface you need to receive something
within the timeout period or an error is generated. You can catch the error
so that's not a problem, but if this is expected behavior (like you command
a particular temperature and the chamber doesn't respond until that temp is
reached) then it would probably be best not to execute a read transaction
until there's data to read (a Data Available event - I/O->Advanced
I/O->Interface Event. Interface serial, Event DAV). The object can be
programmed to wait until data is available or return immediately. The output
is 1 if data is available.

VEE gets funny about accumulating hundreds of thousands of errors.
