vrf panel driver: init from instrument?

Question asked by VRFuser on Aug 22, 2004
Run the BUSS I/O Monitor.  Save the data to a file, i. e. log.  You will be
able to resend everything you sent to the instrument, using a direct I/O.
If this is overkill.  Then either send a log enable, disable, or clear to
control what is actually placed into the log via the Bus Monitor.  At any
rate, this is the only way I can see that you can reset the instrumentation
to the last state.  I'm assuming everything can be powered down and
re-energized.  I'm also assuming the panel driver follows the machine state
else you'll have to send commands via the panel driver.  Best wishes on this
one.

By "panel driver" I'm assuming you mean the VEE Classic Panel Driver with
the .id or .cid file.  Correct?

What do you mean by this?  Are you turning the instrument knobs and you want
to push a panel button that says "get the state of the Hardware"?  A problem
there (in general) would be that when you touch a panel VEE normally would
send the state of the panel before doing the acquire state.  This could mess
up your plans.  Not saying it can't be done.  I don't have your instrument
manuals, or that .id handy, but check to see if there is a *LRN? (learn
string command). (I think that is the syntax.)  This should return the
instrument state.  Save it and any time you push it back out to the
instrument it should returthat state.  It's not a Panel Driver (use Direct
I/O), but it may do what you want it to do.)

Who?  The instrument guys or the guys that wrote the Panel Drivers?
