Most setup programs allow a silent install option and allow you to specify a
configuration settings file also. VEE runtime setup and I/O Libs setup are
probably no exception, though I don't know the specifics.

> believe that VEE 7 still

Well it's a pretty odd kind of conversion. I guess they figure who wants to
deal with floating point numbers in their bitwise representation. I was
going to offer up something like
long Real32ToBits(float r32) return (long)r32;
but that's a pain & needs a file written anyway. Then of course there's
always
RtlCopyMemory(lng, r32)
where the params are long pointer and float pointer. Same problem though.
Plus it's a pain!
What I bet everybody would love to see is unsigned types. Where "signedness"
is an attribute, not a completely different type. Having UInt8 is nice. It
would be real nice to be able to use UInt16 & UInt32 also. I can't count the
number of times that high bit has thrown a monkey wrench in things. And it's
no better with VB either.

Not paranoid, just true. But, inside the machine, they're all in Intel
format (lsb to msb). If not, then somebody didn't do their IO properly!

all automatic once you pay Bill. Essentially, the Form calls a VXE and uses
SYSTEM.DIAGNOSTIC.PROCESS calls. Also the code for the form checks to see
if VEE RUNTIME is installed, if not, when the user runs the vxe, the runtime
is installed. (chose to load when called cause som'n could hap 'tween start
and run, who knows. Don't want a sour face when the button is pushed.)
Anyway, my programming environment includes Visual Studio and all the needed
plug-ins, VEE, COM, ADO, etc. Since programming in the Windows environment,
must obey Bill Gates; I use whatever is available from WINDOWS. Now my job
is much, much, easier and Bill Gates is richer for it.

Subject: [vrf] Run time installation
I have developed a Vee Pro application that I would like to distribute to a
number of users. To install it on a users computer requires installing Vee
Pro run time, configuring IO, copying files, and then making a desk top
shortcut. This is a time consuming process that I would like to automate by
making an installation CD. Is this possible given that Vee Run time is
already installed via a windows installer application? Any one have any
thoughts/experience that might help me out?
Thanks!

the upper byte is switched. Hence, what you think you encoded is not what
you encoded. Also don't forget not only are the bytes flipped sometimes the
bits are also. Now, how many variations can you build from that?

Yes, that's what I do. I must say, tho, that I can't believe that VEE 7
still doesn't have type conversion built in. Some people here on the VRF
have hard coded the conversion - I've attached some examples that I've
quickly found, tho I don't know if they're going in the direction that you
want.

I think your method is about as easy as you can get. What you can do is
assume write permission in the TEMP directory. Even the lowliest accounts
have to write files somewhere. Use getEnv("TEMP") + "\" + <filename>.
There's no such thing as an account that can't even write to it's own
temporary directory!
