VRF- ITG driver vs DIO

Question asked by VRFuser on Feb 12, 1997
Hi all

I am working with an instrument here (HP3458) and attempting to make
an ITG driver do what I want. It mostly works but always gives an error
at reset time.

What's particularly strange, however, is that I have a string of commands

RESET;GAL;NPLC 1;TARM SYN;DISP OFF;BEEP ON;RANGE?
that I can execute from within the ITG driver

OUTPUT STRING "RESET;GAL;NPLC 1;TARM SYN;DISP OFF;BEEP ON;";
OUTPUT STRING "RANGE?";

and consistently get an error (#2048) returned from the instrument
when I query it with "ERR?".

Yet when I execute the exact same strings from within a DIO object
and check the Bus Monitor to ensure that exactly the same characters
are sent in both directions, I consistently get a returned 0 (no error).

I can press the RESET button on my ID and always get the same error.
Or I can issue the c=same commands via DIO and always be OK.

I have compared these two Bus logs down to the character and they match exactly.

SO- I'm open to suggestions.

Perhaps some sort of timing issue?

??

thanks in advance
