Learn strings

I have an application where I need to bring the equipment back to a known
state.  I have old HP Basic code which is written around the idea of setting up
all the equipment, then outputing the learn strings, and inputting them back to
the equipment when the equipment needs to be reset.

   I am having some difficulties implementing this with the I/O transaction
objects.  In HP Basic the code would be something like:

           Output 716;"OL"
           Enter 716; Learn_string$
           .
           .
           .
           Output 716;"IL"&Learn_string$


In I/O transactions should the Learn_string be read in as STR?  It does not
seem to work when I try this.

Also, in the WRITE I/O transactions there is a transaction to write a state
(Learn String).  Where does it get this learn string from?  Also, why isn't
there a corresponding Read transaction?

Had a few minutes so cranked out a VEE program for the above. Note that
my solution modifies your names slightly to be Y2K compliant.
