I got a timeout with a HP 53150A microwave frequency counter that
disappeared when I changed the PC I was using. I'm sending the details (see
below) in the hope of saving some of you time and effort.
I was measuring power and frequency on channel 2,and capturing both
measurements repeatedly. When using computer A (Win 95, see below), I
observed an intermittent HP VEE timeout error during the measurement loop.
The timeout would occur typically about 5 seconds into the measurement loop,
after a number of measurements had successfully been captured. The gate
light on the instrument would cease to flash prior to the error.
I changed the computer for computer B (Win NT, see below), using the same
HP-IB interface, and the problem disappeared, i.e. I did not get a timeout.
Equipment specifications:
HP 53150A microwave frequency counter, firmware revision 078A, option 002
(battery / DC power input)
Computer A: HP Vectra VL 5/166 Series 5, Windows 95 (4.00.950 B), 64 MB RAM
Computer B: HP Vectra VL 6/400 Series 8DT, Windows NT (4.00.1381, Service
Pack 4), 128 MB RAM
HP 82341 HP-IB interface
HP VEE 5.01
HP I-O Libraries G.02.02.01
HP VEE direct I/O commands (used repeatedly in a loop):
WRITE TEXT ":INIT:CONT OFF" EOL
WRITE TEXT ":ABOR" EOL
WRITE TEXT ":INIT:IMM" EOL
WRITE TEXT "*OPC?" EOL
READ TEXT x INT
WRITE TEXT ":SENS:DATA?" EOL
READ TEXT OUT STR
