I parsed the vee.io file for installed instruments. This makes my
program dynamic on what is set up in vee though, not what is connected
to the bus.

What I normally do is go in a loop performing a serial poll and look for the
sweep to be complete before trying to read data. For HP spectrum analyzers
this is usually on bit 2. Don't read it too fast or it will slow down the
analyzer. Put a 100 msec delay in the loop. Also it is best to first read
the sweep time from the analyzer so you can set a timeout in the loop.

Subject: vrf - trace data from spectrum analyzer
Hello All,
Now, I use HP VEE 5.01 on the Microsoft Windows 95 platform, and test for
data acquisition using spectrum Analyzer. I want to receive trace data
continuously from SA but the trace data are suddenly stop after few minites.
First, the SA occurs error message with command error, but the command is
right. And then VEE gives error message with time out error. I don't know
why the problem occur.
I attach the sample file. Please find any wrong algorithm.
I appreciate any help.
