vrf Serial Problem?

Question asked by ramarquardt on Oct 12, 2000

Hello all,

Here is my $0.02 worth....

1. With HP-UX we do NOT have real time control
over the serial ports. I seriously doubt that we do with windows
either.

2. When using a single direct I/O box to include the delay, I suspect that
VEE just does not release enouph cpu time for windows to let it's
serial drivers transmit the data, so the time delay gets lost.

If we were using a real time OS with direct control of the serial port
hardware it would, no doubt, work as desired.

Subject:  RE: vrf Serial Problem?

Welcome to the club.

I had the same problem (and same "solution") last year with VEE 5.

When I asked HP (yes, it was HP then) about this, the person on the
phone said he would investigate and provide an answer later.  Well,
I am still waiting.

As a pratical matter, I just gave up on waiting for recommendations
and just put all serial port I/O operations that require delays in
different I/O objects with delays in between.  Note that there is no
problem with HPIB I/O objects, only serial objects.

I hope someone at Agilent is attentative this time around.
